A Deeper Calling: Living Ministry Beyond Leadership
Introduction:
Message Title:A Deeper Calling*
Core Themes: Our Divine Calling, Total Surrender, and True Worship.
Scripture Reference: Psalm 139:1-17 (God’s purpose before birth).
I was once a devout Catholic, but I no longer follow denominations—I follow Christ alone. My faith is rooted in His teachings, from the Old and New Testaments, and I am fully committed to living as His disciple, guided by the Holy Spirit.
Todays message is in reference to three things that has helped me grow in Christ which started with my divine calling that came at a cost—total surrender and true worship. Scripture was, is and continues to be my foundation, but it was through trials that I was shaped into who I am today in Christ. Yet, the journey isn’t over; I am still being refined. Holiness and perfection are found in Him alone, and I strive daily to walk in His likeness.
This is my journey if you wish, you’re more than welcome to this invitation of joining our Private Facebook Community Page. www.facebook.com/9113bc we’re not meant to walk this journey alone.
Now I leave you with todays message: A Deeper Calling Part two of “True Ministry.”
The Sunken Treasure
There was a man who once heard of a legendary sunken treasure buried deep beneath the ocean. Many had searched for it, but the depths were too daunting, and the pressure too great. Determined, he prepared for years—training, studying, and equipping himself for the dangerous dive. When the day came, he descended deeper than anyone before him. The deeper he went, the more pressure he felt, yet he pressed on.
Finally, he reached the treasure. But in that moment, he realized something profound—it wasn’t just about finding the treasure; it was about becoming the kind of person who could reach it.
- God calls us to a deeper relationship with Him, but many stay at the surface, afraid of the cost, pressure, and challenges of going deeper.
- Like the diver, our calling requires preparation, surrender, and endurance — we must train in faith, equip ourselves with the Word, and push past fear.
- The deeper we go in Christ, the more we discover that our greatest treasure isn’t just in the calling itself, but in who we become in the process—fully surrendered, fully worshiping, fully His.
"Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me." — Psalm 42:7
God, when He calls us, begins to form us, mold us, sculpt us, he uses trials and tribulations, nothing in Christ will come easy – absolutely nothing, nada. It is the path he lays before us or our stubbornness that lead us into it, that we may reach the purpose that he prepared for us before we came out of our mothers womb. While we were yet being formed before birth. Truly and totally amazing.
Yet there were those fortunate enough that had the Angel of the Lord (God Himself) come down from heaven to personally deliver the message of the calling. Others took vows that put Gods plan into motion. Divine. All of these instances are Gods finger in these patriarchs lives and, in our lives, so that we may fulfill the purpose of the Almighty in our lives. David understood this through the Holy Spirit. Check out Psalms 139:1-17 but I’m taking it from verse 13-17
Psalms 139: 1-17:
For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them! [1]
The following men that were called all had served a purpose, and all had to go through a formation, molding, sculpting by the hands of God before they realized that their journey would take them full circle back to the Father – your devine calling has to be filled with surrender and worship:
Biblical Examples of those Called and chosen like Samson, Jeremiah, Samuel, Gideon and David and I’d like to share a synopsis of their lives.
- Samson* – Judges 13:2-14 (Angel of the Lord)
Samson, a Nazirite chosen by God before birth, was given extraordinary strength to deliver Israel from the Philistines (Judges 13–16). Despite his divine calling, he struggled with personal weaknesses, in particular his attraction to Philistine women. He performed mighty feats, including slaying a lion, defeating a thousand men with a jawbone, and toppling a Philistine temple. However, his downfall came when Delilah, bribed by the Philistines, discovered the secret of his strength—his uncut hair. Betrayed and captured, he was blinded and imprisoned. In his final act, he prayed for strength and brought down the temple of Dagon, killing himself and thousands of Philistines, fulfilling his role as Israel’s deliverer.
- Gideon* – Judges 6:11-24 (Angel of the Lord)
Gideon was a judge and warrior chosen by God to deliver Israel from Midianite oppression. Initially hesitant and doubtful, he sought multiple signs from God for assurance, including the famous fleece test. Empowered by the Spirit of the Lord, Gideon gathered an army, which God reduced to just 300 men to demonstrate His power. With this small force, Gideon defeated the vast Midianite army using a surprise night attack with trumpets, torches, and jars. After his victory, Israel sought to make him king, but he refused, insisting that God alone should rule. However, later in life, he made an ephod that led Israel into idolatry. Despite his flaws, Gideon is remembered as a man of faith, mentioned in Hebrews 11 as a hero of faith.
- Samuel* – 1 Samuel 1:9-28 (A vow dedicated to God by his mother Ana)
Samuel was a prophet, priest, and the last judge of Israel. He was miraculously born to Hannah after she dedicated him to God’s service. Raised in the temple under Eli, Samuel first heard God’s voice as a child, marking the beginning of his prophetic ministry. He led Israel spiritually, calling them to repentance and victory over their enemies. Samuel anointed Israel’s first two kings—Saul, whom he later rebuked for disobedience, and David, the man after God’s own heart. His life was marked by faithfulness, intercession, and obedience to God’s will.
-David – was anointed but the Lord himself told Samuel, “I’ve got one already set apart for me.)
David is one of the most frequently mentioned figures in the Bible, and God speaks about him directly or through prophets in many instances across both the Old and New Testaments. Here are some key passages where God speaks about David:
God spoke about David throughout the Bible, establishing him as a key figure in His redemptive plan.
Old Testament:
-Chosen by God (1 Sam. 13:14, 16:1, 12-13) – David was anointed as a man after God’s own heart.
- Davidic Covenant(2 Sam. 7:8-16, 1 Chr. 17:7-14) – God promised David an everlasting kingdom, ultimately fulfilled in Christ.
- Prophetic Promises (Ps. 89:3-4, Jer. 23:5-6, Ezek. 34:23-24) – God foretold a righteous king from David’s line.
New Testament:
- Jesus as the Son of David (Matt. 1:1, Luke 1:32-33) – Christ is the promised heir of David’s throne.
- David as a Prophet (Acts 2:29-36, 13:22-23) – His writings foreshadowed Jesus.
- Eternal Fulfillment (Rev. 22:16) – Jesus declares Himself the "Root and Offspring of David."
David’s covenant and legacy point directly to Jesus, the ultimate King.
These passages show how God spoke about David directly and how David’s role was central in His redemptive plan, culminating in Jesus Christ, the ultimate fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant.
- Jeremiah* – Jeremiah 1:1-19 (The Lord Himself told him that he Himself called him)
Jeremiah, known as the "Weeping Prophet," was called by God before birth to be a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5). He warned Judah of impending destruction due to their idolatry and disobedience, urging repentance. Despite persecution, imprisonment, and rejection, he faithfully delivered God's messages, including the prophecy of Babylonian exile and the promise of a new covenant (Jeremiah 31:31-34). His ministry spanned over 40 years, witnessing Jerusalem’s fall, yet he remained steadfast, lamenting the people's fate while offering hope for restoration.
And just as these men had to go through their service for the Lord, it was through their serving that they fulfilled their purpose and yet all came back full circle to the Father so will you and I like a period at the end of a sentence – DONE.
No matter where in your journey you find yourself, know that we will all have to go full circle to the Father, from which we have to begin – we start with the Father, and end with the Father, but in the meantime know that no matter where you are in your journey, whether trials, tribulations if you’re in Him, you have the Lord on your side. So, your first thing to do is realize that in your heart, in your mind, and begin to move in the direction daily surrendering yourself totally, and begin to worship…That is your first and foremost calling above all other things you do for the Lord in your journey. KNOW that our journey happens in stages. I’m still on my journey.
Things that we need to know about our Divine calling are as follows:
- We’re appointed:Acts 13:48: And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. [2]
(Acts 13:48)
- We’re Called, Predestined, justified and glorified:Romans 8:28-30:
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. [3] (Romans 8:28-30)
-We’ve obtained and inheritance through our predestined gift from God in Christ Jesus.Ephesians 1:11:In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, [4](Ephesians 1:11)
-Before the ages began we received a holy calling, a purpose and Grace: 2Timothy 1:9: who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, [5] (2 Timothy 1:9)

2. Second there has to be a Total Surrender to God Requires: submission, self-denial and commitment:
Psalms 119if read in its entirety, all 176 verses, you’ll get the depth of Davids relationship with Christ Jesus, God Almighty, is his total devotion, surrender, self-denial and commitment he has with the Lord our God.
Several times David fell short of the glory of God, yet he submitted himself to correction and the Lords correction – this is called relationship. He submitted himself to the Lords justice.
I continue to admire this man who recently fell from the grace of God, Steve Lawson, yet he submitted himself to correction and the justice of the Lord. He lost a lot when he made it to the courts of the Lord. Which reminded me of a great man of God by the name of Jimmy Swaggart, whose ministry to this day continues.
James 4:7 – Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you. [6]
Matthew 10:37-39;
Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. [7]
Matthew 16:24-26;
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?
For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done.
Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” [8]
Galatians 6:24;
And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. [9]
Philippians 2:4-8.
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. [10]
Deuteronomy 10:12-13;
“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good? Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it. Yet the Lord set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day. [11]
Joshua 24:14-15;
“Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” [12]
Psalm 31:5;
Into your hand I commit my spirit;
you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God. [13]
Matthew 22:37;
Luke 16:13
No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” [14],
3. And Lastly we have to have true Worship – A Life Given totally over to God
- Definition: Worship is the reverential response to God’s magnificence (Isaiah 6:1-6; Exodus 15:11; Psalm 148).
- Biblical Acts of Worship:
- Offering to God (קָרַב, qārab)
- Bowing in reverence (חָוָה, ḥāwâ)
- Exalting God in praise (רוּם, rûm)
- Singing and celebrating (זָמַר, zāmar; הָלַל, hālal—Hallelujah!)
- Serving God (עָבַד, ʿābad)
- New Testament Worship Carries the Same Heart & Actions.
- Scriptures on Praise & Worship: Psalm 96:1–13
- The Place of Worship: Deuteronomy 12:1-28 (God chooses the place of His habitation). He has made his place of habitation, the place where he abides and lives is in our hearts. Scripture:
